Social Justice
Affirming Community of Faith
The Affirming Vision Statement adopted in 2014 states:
We, the people of Port Hope United Church, declare publicly our commitment to creating a community where all people are welcome regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, differing abilities, ethnic background or economic circumstance.
All persons are welcome to take part in every aspect of church life, including membership, leadership, celebrating life passages and marriage.
We celebrate the richness that diversity brings to our church, even as it challenges us. We pray for God’s spirit to guide us as we work for reconciliation and justice for all persons in both church and society.

Truth and Reconciliation
For the past several years, we have designed both a portion of our service and a part of our outreach activity to establish a close bond with our neighbours in the Alderville First Nation Community.
We are committed to keeping indigenous rights and causes in the forefront of our thinking and in our actions.

Every Child Matters
Amnesty International Write for Rights
Each year on the Sunday closest to Dec. 10, Human Rights Day, a representative of the Northumberland Chapter of Amnesty International addresses the congregation about the power of letter writing to free prisoners of conscience. After the service an opportunity is given for people to sign letters and petitions for 3 or 4 candidates chosen from a list of 10 that Amnesty Canada considers important of support.

Rev Kev’s Walks
We walk to Cobourg and back to raise funds and awareness for important causes. In 2022 we walked for Ukrainian families coming into our area. In 2023 we raised funds for earthquake relief in Syria with funds going to Action for Humanity Canada, a largely Muslim based NGO. In 2024 we walked on Saturday, October 19 for the new Youth Wellness Hub opening soon in Port Hope. You are always welcome to contribute and to join us.. You can walk some of the way or join us for the entire journey. To date we have raised $75,000 for the causes we support.
